SpiderPi
A Raspberry Pi hexapod robot with AI vision, 20kg high-voltage bus servos and Python programming.
- Raspberry Pi
- Suggested for secondary
- Suggested for university
SpiderPi is a hexapod robot with AI vision, powered by a Raspberry Pi 5 or 4B. High-voltage bus servos with 20kg of torque drive its six legs, three joints each, and an HD wide-angle camera on a 2DOF head handles target tracking, line following, tag recognition and face recognition with OpenCV. An IMU in the controller senses its body attitude, and an ultrasonic sensor helps it avoid obstacles. The Advanced Kit adds props for intelligent transport, where SpiderPi judges an item's distance, switches gait and moves it to a tag. It is programmed in Python, and Hiwonder provides course materials for motion control, machine vision and OpenCV.
Zeta42 is an authorised Hiwonder partner in the Middle East.

What it does
Built for.
Camera on a 2DOF head
The HD wide-angle camera turns on two servos to widen what SpiderPi can see, and its focus is set by hand.
AI vision with OpenCV
SpiderPi tracks a ball in real time, follows black, white and red lines, recognises tags and acts on them, and greets faces it detects.
Intelligent transport (Advanced Kit)
With the Advanced Kit's props, SpiderPi judges an item's distance by vision, switches gait as it approaches and moves the item to a designated tag.
Body attitude
The IMU in the core controller senses body attitude and direction of travel in real time.
App and PC control
The WonderPi app for Android and iOS switches between AI game modes, and over wireless LAN the PC software controls SpiderPi remotely and edits action groups.
With a robot arm
SpiderPi Pro is the same hexapod with a 5DOF vision robot arm, for shape recognition, ball kicking and picking up objects.
