MechDog AI is a desktop robot dog on the ESP32 platform with a WonderLLM AI module on its head. The module combines a 2MP HD camera, a microphone, a speaker and an LCD touchscreen, and links MechDog AI to large language, speech and vision models such as DeepSeek, Doubao and Qwen3, so it can hold a conversation, describe what it sees and act on spoken commands. Eight coreless servos and an inverse kinematics gait with a 6-axis IMU drive the legs. The Advanced Kit adds a 3DOF robot arm for grasping and carrying. It can be programmed in Scratch, Arduino or Python.

What it does

Built for.

  • WonderLLM AI module

Built on an ESP32-S3, the module fuses text, voice and vision models. Hiwonder lists DeepSeek, Doubao and Qwen3, more than 30 dialogue languages, and a personality, voice and behaviour you can customise.

  • Offline and online AI

In both kits, AI vision and voice interaction run offline, and online large models add conversation, scene understanding, posture perception and an intelligent watchdog mode.

  • 3DOF arm (Advanced Kit)

The Advanced Kit's lightweight arm, driven by three micro servos, picks up objects and, guided by the large models, carries them where it is told.

  • Inverse kinematics gait

A custom 8DOF inverse kinematics algorithm and a 6-axis IMU give movement in any direction, custom gait parameters, stepless height adjustment and stable walking, backed by open-source kinematics APIs.

  • From Scratch to Python

Learners start with Scratch blocks and move on to Arduino and Python. The PC software's action editor and coordinate control build movements without code.

  • Sensors and control

An ultrasonic sensor measures distance and avoids obstacles, video streams over Wi-Fi, and the app controls one robot or a group.

Where it is used

Applications.

  • Primary and secondary AI lessons with a robot that listens, talks and sees
  • A coding path from Scratch to Arduino and Python
  • Teaching legged movement and inverse kinematics
  • Embodied AI tasks: find, grasp and carry an object (Advanced Kit)
