JetHexa 2027
The ROS 2 JetHexa on Raspberry Pi 5 or Jetson Orin, with lidar, depth vision and AI models in the higher kits.
- Raspberry Pi
- NVIDIA Jetson
- Suggested for university
JetHexa 2027 is an 18DOF hexapod for ROS 2 teaching, run by a Raspberry Pi 5 or an NVIDIA Jetson controller on Ubuntu 22.04 and ROS2 Humble. An inverse kinematics gait gives it smooth movement in any direction. The Starter Kit has a monocular camera; the Standard Kit adds a COIN-D6 lidar and an AI voice interaction module; the Advanced Kit adds an Aurora930 Pro depth camera; and the Ultimate Kit pairs the depth camera with an RPLIDAR C1. With the voice module, multimodal AI models and the OpenClaw AI agent turn spoken or typed instructions into tasks. Hiwonder provides Python support, tutorials and open-source code.

What it does
Built for.
Inverse kinematics gait
Hiwonder's gait algorithm calculates all 18 joint trajectories in real time for 360° omnidirectional movement. The app and PC software adjust body height, pitch, roll, stride and speed as it walks.
Lidar and depth vision
From the Standard Kit up, a TOF lidar handles SLAM mapping, multi-point navigation and dynamic obstacle avoidance. The Advanced and Ultimate kits add a 3D depth camera for depth maps, point clouds and distance measurement, and with both sensors JetHexa switches between climbing, crawling and lowering its body to get past obstacles.
Multimodal AI and OpenClaw
With the AI voice module (Standard Kit and up), language, speech and vision models let JetHexa talk, describe a scene, track an object it is asked to find, patrol along coloured lines and carry out long multi-step voice commands. The OpenClaw agent breaks a complex instruction into sub-tasks and acts on them.
Vision
OpenCV, MediaPipe and YOLO26 handle object detection and KCF target tracking. An LCD screen shows system parameters, and ready-made demos such as face tracking, gesture control and body posture control run from start-up.
Control and simulation
Drive it from the iOS and Android app with a live camera view, from a wireless controller, or from the PC software's graphical action editor. MoveIt2 and Gazebo simulation run on a 1:1 URDF model.
Choosing a kit
Starter: monocular camera. Standard: COIN-D6 lidar, monocular camera and AI voice module. Advanced: COIN-D6 lidar, depth camera and voice module. Ultimate: RPLIDAR C1, depth camera and voice module. Each kit is offered with a Raspberry Pi 5, a Jetson Orin Nano Super or a Jetson Orin NX Super, or without a controller for buyers who already have a compatible one.
