Cookies Policy

We set strictly necessary cookies only — enough to keep you signed in and keep bots out. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking.

01Our approach

This policy explains what cookies are, exactly which ones Zeta42 uses, and how to control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more broadly.

02What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. On your next request the browser sends it back, which lets the site recognise the same visitor — that is how you stay signed in after moving between pages.

  • First-party cookies are set by the site you are visiting. Third-party cookies are set by another domain whose content the page loads.
  • Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you clear them.
  • Strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to function. Everything else — analytics, personalisation, advertising — is optional and requires consent.

Related technologies do a similar job: local storage keeps small values in the browser without sending them to a server, and pixels are tiny images used to record that something was loaded. We use local storage for two small preferences and no pixels at all.

03Cookies we set

Every cookie below is strictly necessary. None of them profiles you, and none is shared for advertising.

First-party cookies
CookiePurposeDurationType
better-auth.session_token — in production it carries a __Secure- prefixKeeps you signed in. Set when you log in, and shared across zeta42.com and api.zeta42.com so the site and the API recognise the same session. Deleted when you sign out.Up to 7 days, refreshed while you stay activeStrictly necessary

These cookies are only ever set after you sign in. Browsing the public website — the homepage, programmes, curriculum, blog and workshop pages — sets no cookie from us at all.

04Third-party cookies

Three services we rely on may set their own cookies. Each is functional or security-related; none is used for advertising.

ServiceWhenWhat it does
Cloudflare TurnstileOn the contact, booking, sign-up and password-reset formsConfirms you are a person rather than a bot, and may store short-lived state so a passed challenge is not repeated. It is a privacy-preserving alternative to a traditional CAPTCHA and does not track you across sites.
Cloudflare (CDN and security)Across the siteMay set a bot-management cookie such as __cf_bm to distinguish human traffic from automated traffic. It expires after about 30 minutes and is not used for profiling.
StripeOnly when you are sent to the payment pageSets cookies on Stripe's own domain to run its hosted checkout securely and to prevent fraud. These are governed by Stripe's privacy policy, not ours, and are never set on zeta42.com.

Lesson videos are delivered by Cloudflare Stream using signed playback links. Video playback does not set advertising or tracking cookies.

05Local storage

Inside the classroom we store two small preferences in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and are never sent to us.

KeyWhat it holds
z42-c3-themeWhether you prefer the light or dark theme in the workbench.
z42-build-themeThe same preference for the build studio.

Clearing your browser's site data removes both. The only consequence is that the classroom reverts to its default theme.

06Why you don't see a cookie banner

Consent is required for cookies that are not strictly necessary — analytics, personalisation and advertising. We do not use any of those, so there is nothing for you to consent to, and a banner asking you to accept cookies would be theatre rather than a real choice.

This is a deliberate decision, and it is one we intend to keep. If we ever introduce analytics or any other non-essential cookie, we will add a proper consent mechanism before it loads, and update this policy first.

07Managing cookies

You are always in control of cookies through your browser settings, where you can view what is stored, delete it, and block cookies entirely or per site:

  • Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
  • Safari — Settings → Privacy
  • Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Signing out clears your session cookie immediately. Most browsers also offer a private or incognito window, which discards all cookies when you close it.

08Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if the cookies we use change. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version, and a change that introduces a non-essential cookie will be published here — and made subject to consent — before that cookie is ever set.
