MentorPi M1 (Monocular Camera Version)
MentorPi M1 with a 2DOF monocular camera and lidar: a Raspberry Pi 5 mecanum wheel robot car for ROS2.
- Raspberry Pi
- Suggested for secondary
- Suggested for university
This is the monocular camera version of MentorPi M1, sold as a single kit. It is the same mecanum wheel Raspberry Pi 5 robot car running ROS2, with closed-loop encoder motors and a lidar, but it carries a 2DOF monocular camera in place of the 3D depth camera and has no AI voice interaction module. It handles SLAM mapping, vision recognition and autonomous driving, and YOLOv11 detects road signs and traffic lights. Hiwonder provides ROS2 tutorials and videos.

What it does
Built for.
2DOF monocular camera
Two LFD-01 anti-blocking servos move the camera, and together with the chassis give the car a full 360° view.
Lidar navigation
The lidar handles obstacle avoidance, target following, fixed-point and multi-point navigation, path planning and global task navigation.
Vision and YOLO
With OpenCV the car tracks colours and targets, follows lines of a chosen colour and decodes QR codes. The YOLO deep learning algorithm recognises objects, and YOLOv11 training covers road signs and traffic lights.
MediaPipe interaction
The MediaPipe framework adds fingertip recognition, human body recognition and 3D face detection.
Mecanum chassis
An anodised aluminium chassis on mecanum wheels, driven by metal-gear encoder motors, moves forwards, sideways, diagonally and on the spot.
Control
Drive it from the WonderPi app on iOS or Android, from PC software, or with a wireless handle over Bluetooth.
