- Suggested for university
ArmPi Pro is a robot arm developer kit from Hiwonder: a 6DOF vision robot arm on a four-wheel-drive mecanum wheel chassis, controlled by a Raspberry Pi 4B or 5. A wide-angle camera at the end of the arm gives it a first-person view, and OpenCV image processing with inverse kinematics lets it recognise colours, faces and tags, then pick up, sort, stack and carry blocks. Four encoder geared motors on mecanum wheels move it in any direction. It is programmed in Python with open-source, annotated code, and an iOS and Android app streams the camera view for remote control.

What it does
Built for.
Vision on the arm
The HD wide-angle camera at the end of the arm locates coloured blocks and tags, and inverse kinematics turns their position into servo movements for grasping, sorting and palletising.
Omnidirectional chassis
Four encoder geared motors with a 1:131 ratio and 13kg.cm of torque drive four mecanum wheels, so ArmPi Pro can move in any direction along complicated routes.
Line following and transport
Pick a line colour in the app and ArmPi Pro follows it. It can also find a block of a chosen colour and carry it to a destination.
App control with a live view
The iOS and Android app drives the robot and switches AI games with one tap. Over Wi-Fi it streams the camera's first-person view, for picking and carrying by remote control.
Open Python code
All of the Python code is open source, with detailed annotations for self-study. The robot can also be reached from a PC over VNC.
Built to carry a load
Serial bus servos report voltage and position and have built-in anti-blocking protection. A hard aluminium alloy frame protects the controller, and a 6000mAh LiPo battery runs the robot for about 90 minutes.
