GoGoPi
A Raspberry Pi robot car with a camera on a 2DOF pan-tilt for colour, face and finger tracking in Python.
- Raspberry Pi
- Suggested for secondary
- Suggested for university
GoGoPi is an AI vision robot car kit based on the Raspberry Pi 4B or 5. An HD camera on a two-degree-of-freedom pan-tilt lets it track colours and faces and count fingers with OpenCV, and a glowing ultrasonic sensor handles obstacle avoidance, with a light colour that can be changed. It is programmed in Python, with open-source, annotated code and detailed tutorials, and can be driven from an iOS or Android app or over VNC remote desktop. Three I2C and two GPIO ports take extra sensors.

What it does
Built for.
Camera on a pan-tilt
The 2DOF pan-tilt tilts the HD camera through up to 130° and turns it through 180°.
Colour and face tracking
With OpenCV, GoGoPi follows a colour chosen in the app and lights up in the same colour. For faces, the app switches between tracking with the pan-tilt alone and tracking with the whole car.
Finger recognition
GoGoPi counts the fingers held up to the camera and responds, for example by honking, turning or changing its light colour.
Obstacle avoidance
The glowing ultrasonic sensor detects obstacles so the car can steer around them, and its light colour is set from the app.
App and remote desktop
The iOS and Android app shows the camera's first-person view while driving and starts the AI vision games. VNC gives a remote desktop on a computer.
Python and expansion
The Python code for the vision games is open source and annotated. Three I2C and two GPIO ports take more sensors for further projects.
