MasterPi

A Raspberry Pi robot car on mecanum wheels with a 5DOF vision arm, programmed in Python with OpenCV.

  • Suggested for university

MasterPi is an AI vision robot car powered by a Raspberry Pi 4B or 5. It carries a 5-degree-of-freedom robot arm with an HD wide-angle camera at the end, on a mecanum wheel chassis that moves in any direction. With OpenCV and a first-person view, it recognises and locates coloured blocks for colour sorting, line following and target tracking, then grabs and carries them, and a glowing ultrasonic sensor avoids obstacles. It is fully programmable in Python, can be controlled from the WonderPi app or PC software, and is assembled from step-by-step instructions.

Zeta42 is an authorised Hiwonder partner in the Middle East.

What it does

Built for.

  • Vision arm

The 5DOF arm (4DOF plus gripper) grabs and carries target items, and the wide-angle camera at its end lets it follow what it sees.

  • Mecanum movement

Four mecanum wheels move MasterPi forwards, sideways, diagonally and on the spot, along complicated routes.

  • AI games with OpenCV

Colour recognition, colour sorting, line following and target tracking use OpenCV image processing and the live camera view.

  • Control without code

Graphical PC software moves each servo with a slider and edits action groups, and a threshold tool fine-tunes colour detection in the LAB colour space.

  • App control

The WonderPi app for Android and iOS switches between game modes and drives the robot remotely.

  • Obstacle avoidance

A glowing ultrasonic sensor detects and avoids obstacles and changes its own light as it does.

Where it is used

Applications.

  • Secondary and university robotics in Python and OpenCV
  • Teaching mobile manipulation: find, grab and carry
  • Colour sorting and line-following challenges
  • Raspberry Pi projects in motion control and machine vision
