Waste Sorting Robot Kit

A micro:bit kit that recognises waste with the WonderCam AI camera, announces the category and opens its bin.

  • micro:bit

  • Suggested for secondary

The Waste Sorting Robot Kit teaches artificial intelligence through a simulated waste sorting station. Powered by micro:bit, it uses the WonderCam AI vision module and 12 built-in trained waste sorting models to recognise the category of a waste item; an MP3 module announces the result, an OLED display shows it, and the matching bin opens. WonderCam, on a Kendryte K210 processor with a 2-megapixel camera, also offers face, colour, tag, number and landmark recognition, image classification, feature learning and line following. It is sold with or without a micro:bit V2.0.

What it does

Built for.

  • Recognise, announce, sort

Using its 12 built-in trained waste sorting models, WonderCam identifies the category of an item. The MP3 module announces it, the OLED display shows it, and a servo opens the matching bin.

  • WonderCam AI vision module

WonderCam pairs a Kendryte K210 processor with a 2-megapixel OV2640 image sensor and a 2.0 IPS display, and connects over I2C. Its built-in functions cover face recognition, image classification, feature learning, colour recognition, line following, and tag, number and landmark recognition.

  • AI in a daily task

Sorting waste puts AI into a familiar setting, so learners see how artificial intelligence connects with daily life.
