TonyPi
A Raspberry Pi 5 humanoid robot with 18 degrees of freedom, AI vision and Python programming.

- Suggested for university
TonyPi is a humanoid robot built on the Raspberry Pi 5. It has 18 degrees of freedom: 16 intelligent bus servos in the body and two in the head, which carries an HD wide-angle camera. With OpenCV and Python it can recognise colours and tags, track targets, follow lines and kick a ball, and MediaPipe adds face detection. The Advanced Kit adds an AI voice interaction module, so TonyPi can take spoken commands through ChatGPT and describe what it sees. Hiwonder provides tutorials, source code, schematics and worked examples.

What it does
Built for.
18 degrees of freedom
Sixteen high-voltage intelligent bus servos drive the body, and two more degrees of freedom in the head let the camera look around.
AI vision with OpenCV
The head camera finds the colour and position of targets, reads tags and follows coloured lines. MediaPipe adds face detection, and PID control keeps the head locked on a moving target.
Voice and large AI models
In the Advanced Kit, ChatGPT turns spoken commands into actions: tracking and kicking a ball, patrolling a line or describing the scene. Other models can be used through OpenRouter.
Balance and posture
An IMU in the controller senses the body's attitude and direction of travel in real time and supports self-balancing. In the Advanced Kit, a large model reads it to stand TonyPi up or lie it down on command.
Control without code
The WonderPi app for iOS and Android switches between game modes, and the PC software moves each servo with a slider and records action groups.
Upgrade to TonyPi Pro
An upgrade pack turns TonyPi into TonyPi Pro, with hands that open up to 66mm and a set of sensor modules. TonyPi Pro can also clear hurdles and climb stairs.
