Spiderbot
An 18DOF hexapod robot on high-voltage bus servos, with Arduino sensor projects in the Advanced Kit.
- Arduino
- Suggested for secondary
Spiderbot is a programmable hexapod robot with 18 degrees of freedom, three in each leg, driven by 11.1V high-voltage bus servos with metal gears. A tripod gait keeps it stable on different surfaces, and it walks, climbs and dances from the Android and iOS app, a wireless controller or the graphical PC software. Its dual control system pairs a bus servo controller with an Arduino secondary development board. Both kits have an IMU and an ultrasonic sensor for distance measurement and obstacle avoidance; the Advanced Kit adds sensor modules and the WonderEcho voice module for Arduino projects such as colour recognition, touch and sound control, and voice interaction.

What it does
Built for.
Tripod gait
Spiderbot walks on a tripod gait that keeps it stable across different surfaces, and the app runs walking, climbing and dancing actions.
High-voltage bus servos
The 11.1V bus servos have high-precision potentiometers and metal gears, and draw over 60% less current than 7.4V servos for longer running. Bus wiring keeps the body tidy.
Dual control system
A serial bus servo controller drives the legs, and an Arduino-compatible secondary development board handles sensors and your own code.
Sensor expansion (Advanced Kit)
The Advanced Kit adds sensors for colour recognition, sound control, touch control, infrared obstacle avoidance and a dot matrix display, mounted on reserved holes in the alloy back bracket.
Voice interaction (Advanced Kit)
The WonderEcho module recognises up to 255 command phrases, which can be customised, and hears them up to 5 metres away in a quiet room.
Three ways to drive it
The graphical PC software builds action groups by dragging sliders, the app gives button and slider control, and a Bluetooth wireless controller drives it in real time.
