JetTank in green anodised aluminium on nylon tracks, with a lidar, a depth camera on a pan-tilt and a 7-inch screen

Mobile and ROS robots

JetTank

A tracked ROS robot on NVIDIA Jetson Nano: lidar SLAM in every kit, a depth camera from the Standard Kit.

  • NVIDIA Jetson
  • Suggested for university

JetTank is a ROS education robot on a tracked chassis, controlled by an NVIDIA Jetson Nano. Its nylon tracks are driven by two encoder motors with differential steering, which gives it the grip to cross rough ground and climb. Every kit carries a lidar, a SLAMTEC A1 or an EAI G4, for SLAM mapping and navigation. The Standard Kit adds an Astra Pro Plus 3D depth camera for 3D mapping, point clouds and AI vision, and the Advanced Kit adds a 7-inch touchscreen and a 6-channel far-field microphone array for voice control. Hiwonder supplies schematics, source code, video tutorials and projects.

What it does

Built for.

  • Tracked chassis

Nylon tracks on metal bearings, driven by two encoder motors with differential steering, handle rough ground and climbing.

  • Lidar SLAM

The lidar maps with Gmapping, Hector, Karto or Cartographer and supports navigation, obstacle avoidance, multi-robot navigation and lidar tracking. Choose a SLAMTEC A1 or an EAI G4 with any kit.

  • 3D vision

In the Standard and Advanced kits, the Astra Pro Plus depth camera on a 240° pan-tilt supports RTAB-VSLAM 3D mapping with global localisation, ORB-SLAM2 and ORB-SLAM3, depth maps and point clouds, plus KCF tracking, line following, colour and AprilTag recognition, YOLO and MediaPipe.

  • Voice control

In the Advanced Kit, the 6-channel far-field microphone array and speakers locate whoever is speaking, take voice commands, read out text published by ROS and send JetTank to designated points on the map.

  • Touchscreen

The Advanced Kit's 7-inch touchscreen, at 1024 × 600 pixels, shows the robot's parameters for monitoring and debugging.

  • Simulation

JetTank supports Gazebo simulation, and its URDF model can be viewed in RViz to check mapping and navigation while debugging.

Where it is used
