AiArm

An ESP32 vision robot arm coded in Scratch or Python, with an optional sorting-scene kit.

AiArm is a 6DOF robot arm that Hiwonder built for classroom demonstrations of artificial intelligence and robot engineering. It runs on the CoreX controller, which uses an ESP32, and carries the WonderCam AI vision module, whose built-in machine learning algorithms learn a new target with one click. Students program it in WonderCode with Scratch blocks and can convert their programs into Python. It comes in two versions: the arm with the AI vision module, or the full Vision Robot Arm Kit, which adds a 10mm-thick base board, sorting bins, a sensor box, electronic modules, a wireless handle and props for building a waste sorting scene.

Zeta42 is an authorised Hiwonder partner in the Middle East.

What it does

Built for.

  • WonderCam AI vision

The vision module has machine learning algorithms built in and learns a target with one click. AiArm uses it to recognise colours, tags and bar codes and track targets, and with the Vision Robot Arm Kit's bins and waste cards it sorts waste.

  • Scratch and Python

WonderCode offers drag-and-drop Scratch 3.0 blocks, and a visual program can be converted into Python code when students are ready for text programming.

  • CoreX controller

The ESP32-based controller sits in a protective shell with a button, buzzer, sound module, RGB module and infrared receiver built in, and has several 4-pin ports for more sensors.

  • Teach by hand or by coordinates

Press the offline programming button and move the arm by hand to record an action group, or edit action groups in the PC software. Built-in inverse kinematics sends the gripper to a position given as end effector coordinates.

  • Sensor projects (Vision Robot Arm Kit)

The full kit's modules turn the arm into a face-tracking fan, sort blocks by the distance an ultrasonic sensor measures, show patterns on a dot matrix display and announce what it recognises through an MP3 module.

  • Several ways to control it

AiArm can be driven from the iOS and Android app, with a wired or wireless mouse, or with the wireless handle that comes in the Vision Robot Arm Kit. Its serial bus servos report position and voltage, and the aluminium alloy body sits in PC plastic shells.
