LeArm AI

An ESP32 desktop robot arm for Arduino programming, with AI vision and voice in the Advanced Kit.

  • Arduino
  • Suggested for secondary

LeArm AI is an open-source desktop robot arm that Hiwonder developed for STEAM education. Six smart bus servos on an all-metal arm with a bearing base are run by an ESP32 controller with inverse kinematics, and the arm is programmed in Arduino. Every kit can be controlled from PC software, a Bluetooth app or a PS2 wireless controller. The Intermediate and Advanced kits add sensor modules, and the Advanced Kit also adds the WonderMV vision module and the WonderEcho voice module, for colour, face and tag recognition, waste sorting and voice control. Hiwonder provides open-source code, schematics and tutorials.

Zeta42 is an authorised Hiwonder partner in the Middle East.

What it does

Built for.

  • All-metal arm

The body is aluminium alloy with a sandblasted, oxidised finish, on a bearing base for flexible rotation. High-torque smart servos grip objects and move smoothly.

  • Arduino and open source

The ESP32 controller is programmed in Arduino. Hiwonder supplies open-source code and schematics, the source code of the PC software and Android app, and an inverse kinematics analysis that explains how the arm works.

  • Control without code

In the PC software, sliders set each servo and a coordinate mode sends the end effector to a target position. The Bluetooth app and the PS2 wireless controller, which works up to 10 metres away, need no programming.

  • Sensors (Intermediate and Advanced Kit)

Sound, infrared obstacle avoidance, touch, ultrasonic and acceleration sensors and an OLED display let the arm react to sounds, objects in front of it, touch, distance and motion.

  • AI vision (Advanced Kit)

The WonderMV module, built on a Kendryte K210, finds colour blocks and grips them using inverse kinematics, sorts waste cards with deep learning, remembers up to three faces and sorts tagged blocks.

  • Voice control (Advanced Kit)

The WonderEcho module recognises up to 255 preset phrases, which can be changed, so the arm picks up and sorts blocks on spoken commands and plays voice prompts of its own.
