ArmPi FPV
An open-source 6DOF robot arm on Raspberry Pi, with a camera on the arm, ROS and Python.
- Raspberry Pi
- Suggested for secondary
- Suggested for university
ArmPi FPV is an open-source robot arm based on ROS and controlled by a Raspberry Pi 4B or 5. A 120° wide-angle camera on the end of the arm gives it a first-person view, and OpenCV image processing lets it recognise colours, sort objects, track targets and palletise items. Inverse kinematics turns a target's position into servo movements, and ROS MoveIt plans more complex motions. All of the Python code is open source and annotated for self-study.

What it does
Built for.
Vision from the arm itself
The HD camera works out a target's position and angle in its view and hands them to the inverse kinematics, so the arm can grasp freely. Focus is set by hand.
Smart serial bus servos
The servos give high accuracy and data feedback with simpler wiring, and the arm ends in a duralumin alloy claw. Brackets are anodised metal, and the controller sits in a metal shell.
Python, ROS and MoveIt
Program it in Python with open, annotated code, or work in ROS with MoveIt for motion planning.
App and PC control
The iOS and Android app moves the arm by dragging its joints on screen, and PC software controls it from a computer.
Expansion
Sensor modules such as a fan, an ultrasonic sensor or a touch sensor can be added. ArmPi Pro is the same arm on a mecanum wheel chassis, which the user assembles.
