AiHand
An open-source micro:bit V2 robotic hand with the WonderCam AI vision module and a glowing ultrasonic sensor.
- micro:bit
- Suggested for primary
- Suggested for secondary
AiHand is an open-source robotic hand powered by the micro:bit V2. It has six joints driven by anti-blocking servos, and carries the WonderCam AI vision module and a glowing ultrasonic sensor, with expansion interfaces for more sensors. WonderCam lets the hand recognise colours, faces and tags and sort waste cards, and the ultrasonic sensor measures distance and lets it catch a ball. Other projects include button control, touch control, voice control and an action dance. AiHand is programmed in MakeCode or driven from the iOS and Android app, and is sold with or without a micro:bit V2.
Zeta42 is an authorised Hiwonder partner in the Middle East.

What it does
Built for.
Six joints, anti-blocking servos
Five LFD-01 servos move the fingers and an LD-1501MG servo turns the hand through 180°. A stall protection algorithm keeps the servos from burning out if they are blocked or hit something.
WonderCam AI vision
WonderCam has eight built-in functions. AiHand uses it for colour, face and tag recognition, and for waste sorting: it reads a waste card, announces the category and shows a matching pattern on the dot matrix.
Glowing ultrasonic sensor
The I2C ultrasonic sensor measures distance and lets the hand catch a ball held in front of it.
micro:bit V2 at the core
The micro:bit has Bluetooth, an accelerometer, an electronic compass, buttons, a 5 × 5 LED matrix, a speaker, a microphone and a touch sensor. AiHand is programmed in MakeCode.
App control and expansion
The iOS and Android app moves the hand with buttons and sliders, and more sensors can be added through the expansion interfaces.
